Preparation

NEW PATIOS

Prior to application of Smartseal patio sealer, ensure the patio is clean and dust free. It is important no efflorescence(surface whiteness) which would detract from the aesthetic finish is present. If efflorescence is visible, treatment with efflorescence remover is recommended. After  treatment allow 4-6 weeks to make sure that the efflorescence does not re-occur.

EXISTING PATIOS

Unless the patios has been laid only a few months, pre treatment with fungicidal wash will help kill off any algae spores present. For older patios jet washing or pressure washing should be considered to make the surface as clean as possible prior to patio sealer being applied

FINAL PREPARATION

After cleaning, leave the patio to dry throughly before sealing the patio is considered. It is recommended to protect vunerable areas such as borders, flowerbeds, ponds and brickwork from overspill of sealer with masking tape, sheeting or boards. The temperature should be between 7-23 degrees to allow the patio sealer to dry and adhere to the surface properly. Also ensure and that no precipitation is due for at least 4 hours after application of the sealer has been completed.
